Chicargo

We just returned a few hours ago from a lovely time in Chicago. On Saturday (the 30th) we went to a friend's wedding (Colleen Matheu - a fellow Oberlin fluter. Her now husband, Kurt, is also an Oberlin alum, but he graduated before I was a freshman, so neither Matt nor I knew him.) The wedding ceremony was beautiful. Colleen had a beautiful lace veil and gloves, both of which she purchased while travelling in Belgium. The ceremony was a Catholic Mass with wonderful music (performed by equally wonderful musicians!). The reception was loads of fun. Matt and I danced a lot. Matt decided he really likes dancing when he knows the moves, and now that we've taken some dance lessons, he wants to do the foxtrot, rumba, and swing :-) Super fun!

New Years Eve we had an amazing brunch at Kurt's sister's house. The house has a newly renovated basement with a gameroom (where we played pinball and air hockey), and the food was all from a Swedish caterer. How appropriate for Team Carlson :-) It was really pretty amazing. We spent the rest of the day at the hotel. Matt watched football and I napped and read a book. Then that night we went to Greektown, a restaurant called Santorini's. So good, and so fun! They handed out hats, noisemakers, and streamers at about 11:30. Our table, full of 7 musicians and an 8th who was not a musician, of course got the place night and noisy as we discovered the various pitches our nosemakers were capable of making, and how well we could bend the pitch to harmonize to eachother....and the music that was playing. Huge dorks! We rang in the New Year, danced goofily to Greek music...and then of course started clapping composite rhythms....which had the whole place staring at us...hehe.

So, we drove back this morning, and here we are back in Bloomington :-) I've decided today was the last day of vacation. We've been playing video games, now we're watching TV, and I finished my book when we got home.

And now, *insert trumpet fanfare,* DISHES!
