The Real Honeymoon

I call it the "Real" Honeymoon only because the last couple of days have been more typical of a honeymoon, as we've been in Betws-y-Coed in the mountains. Betws is pronounced like Jerome Bettis's last name. The y is hardly said, and Coed is like "coin" with a "d" It means "Chapel in the Woods" and was at one point a Welsh Honeymoon retreat. It's also fairly centrally located to various destinations in Snowdonia National Park (BEAUTIFUL) and Conwy Castle (we're going tomorrow). We ditched the bikes in Beaumaris (yes, the biking adventure was short lived, but we realized that it was 50 or so miles to Betws-y-Coed and I felt that 15 miles at once had been plenty for me...and my poor calves. So, Matt went back to the drawing board, we almost decided to go to London (ok, maybe not, but I figured it was always an option), and we took busses out here. Last night we took a LOVELY walk up to some cliffs overlooking town (we were lent a wonderful guidebook that gives specific directions on hiking around the town). Got some pictures before the camera died, might head up that way again. Today we took a 5 hour walk/hike to Swallow Falls, a neighboring town with a beautiful little water fall.
There is sooooo much to tell, but I am using the inn keeper's computer and should really get off so he can get back to work....don't want to give reason to believe Americans are rude! I'll just finish with two small details. 1) The drive up through the mountains to Betws-y-Coed was incredibly beautiful with green pastures, some steep drops, and winding roads. The bus drivers are crazy and we now know all to well that the buses here have VERY good brakes. 2) There are very old stone enclosures to the farms in this area. Some up very steep hills. Matt is hardly able to prevent himself from climing one and just walking through someone's fields. However, our walk today did direct us through some fields and we discovered that sheep will run when food is tossed to them (mind you, the farmer gave the food, we would not have been so bold). We also saw many black cows as we walked through their field. They were completely non-plussed.
Will write when we get internet again!
Love,
Brea and Matt

What lovely countryside! Are there roses in bloom and cottage gardens in the farmer's front yards? What a wonderful trip for both of you where you can just explore and be together!

Love,
Diane
